Abstract:
Retrofits and repairs to reinforced concrete columns have been required in several recent tall building construction projects in Jakarta, Indonesia. The defects and their causes are described, and changes to current delivery, construction, and design practices are proposed to minimize future occurrences. The proposed design changes are shown to reduce congestion associated with confinement of longitudinal bars in heavily loaded columns.
