Abstract:
This article reports on the design and construction of a reinforced concrete tank for a new water treatment plant in Thetford Mines, QC, Canada. Because the tank will be in constant contact with chlorine, the design team elected to use glass fiber-reinforced polymer reinforcing bars throughout. The authors discuss materials used for the construction of the tank; instrumentation of reinforcing bars; and leak test results, including tank cracking and observed bar strains.
