Abstract:
The flexural drift capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) walls is discussed in this study based on the test results of 10 specimens. The test parameters were wall length, thickness, detailing, and axial force. The detailing of the ties did not satisfy the ACI 318-08 requirements. Each specimen had a column at one end where an axial force was applied. All specimens failed in flexural compression after yielding of the longitudinal bars. The observed flexural drift capacity was between 0.4 and 1.2%. A set of equations to predict the drift capacity is proposed wherein the hinge zone length is assumed to be 2.5 times that of the wall thickness.
