Abstract:
The frost resistance of concrete is generally evaluated by a durability factor determined by repeated freezing and thawing testing specified in JIS A 1148, which was standardized as JIS in 2001. However, it has been pointed out the problems of this method, such as large amounts of time and labor required for testing and fluctuation of results depending on the specifications of testing machines. furthermore, the relativity is not clear between the performance over time of actual concrete and the three evaluation indices in this method: relative dynamic modulus, length change, and mass change. The committee investigated the relationship between the environmental factors and actualities of frost damage, and the frost resistance of concrete. In this light, the committee made proposals test methods to evaluate the frost resistance of concrete.
