Abstract:
Designers may not be aware of some of the critical issues necessary for a proper installation of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) systems. These systems cannot be installed successfully without careful attention to existing conditions, service requirements, material properties, and application details. Given a detailed specification, clear procedural notes, a tested and proven FRP system, and properly trained and certified applicators, however, FRP strengthening can provide a great value to owners. The authors summarize the key aspects of understanding the actual material properties of composite systems and selecting materials and qualified installers.
