Abstract:
In this paper, a new method is suggested to compute the values of ?v and ?f parameters at any slab-column connection. The method is based on an elastic analysis of the overall slab using the boundary element method (BEM) via the shear deformable plate bending theory. The stress resultants along the critical section perimeter are computed in a semi-analytical, semi-numerical manner. This method is implemented into a computer program to help analyze several columns with several critical section positions. Values obtained using the present analysis are compared against those given by the ACI 318 (2008) and by previous research based on the finite element method. It is recommended to use the present method, especially for a column having irregular shapes or having a large rectangularity ratio.
