Abstract:
The Canadian reference plan for the long-term storage and disposal of irradiated fuel from CANDU nuclear power reactors is in a mined repository in granitic rock of the Canadian Shield. Eventually, the physical intrusions into the rock (bore-holes, open fractures, and mine shafts) must be sealed to provide a long-term permeability less than or equal to that of the original intact rock mass so that the sealed intrusions will not provide a preferential leakage path to the biosphere. The main requirements of repository sealing grouts are listed in Table 1.
