Abstract:
This paper summarizes laboratory evaluations of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) subject to pure compression, pure tension, direct shear, tensionshear, compression-shear, compressioncompressionshear, and tensioncompressionshear tests. Results of conventional concrete specimens tested in a similar manner are also presented. Over 1000 specimens were used in these tests. Based on the experimental data obtained, the multiaxial shear strengths of RCC are given, which can be used as the design basis for RCC dams. To carry out these tests, the authors designed and installed a set of concrete triaxial apparatus that has proved to have many advantages.
