Abstract:
Jointless bridges are reported to have many advantages. Among them are reduced maintenance, improved riding quality, lower impact loads, reduced snowplow damage, and, depending on the type of structure and connection details, structural continuity for live loads and seismic resistance. At least 32 states are using jointless bridges, but their length limitations do not seem to be based on any rational analysis.
