Abstract:
There currently are systemic impediments to fully efficient production of concrete building structures. Concrete is unique among structural materials in requiring Engineers-of-Record to design and specify all details of fabrication and construction. This situation discourages them from designing concrete or using computers to optimize their designs. The proposed solution is to assign the responsibility for detailed design of concrete frames to a new class of Frame Contractors.
