Abstract:
The paper discusses the basic mechanics of corrosion-induced slab liftoff relative to the separation of slabs and support elements in conventionally reinforced concrete structures. The discussion addresses conventionally reinforced slab and beam systems, where the slab serves as part of the compression zone for structural capacity determination. The paper examines specific features of slab and frame system degradation that should be considered during analysis of structural capacity on floor and beam systems where corrosion damage has occurred.
