Abstract:
The shear behavior of short reinforced concrete walls (H/L{times} 1) resembles that of deep beams and corbels. Using formulas established for top-loaded deep beams and corbels, the shear capacity of reinforced concrete wall test specimens was predicted, and the results were compared against experimental values. Good agreement was observed. Some modifications, however, were needed in certain cases to take into account the way in which loading was applied to the test specimens, and the moment of shear transfer is more akin to that in bottom-loaded deep beams.
