Abstract:
A bascule bridge in the Chicago, Illinois area recently underwent rehabilitation with the erection of a conventional reinforced concrete deck. The North Ashland Avenue span now has a lower cost, lower maintenance floor system than the concrete-filled grating or open steel grating found on most "Chicago-style" or trunnion bascules.
