Abstract:
The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has undertaken a $1 billion project to connect the North-Eastern and the South-Central part of Oahu island using a network of bridges and tunnels. The 16-mile-long highway will link the north-eastern city of Kailua with Pearl Harbor, and the expanding industrial area around it. The highways consist of two systems of approaches and a viaduct leading to two parallel 5000-ft (1524-m) tunnels burrowed in the Koolau Mountains.
