Abstract:
The ability to finish concrete flatwork properly is the key to achieving the designed service life and appearance of that concrete. "Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction," ACI 302.1R-89, outlines recommended practices and procedures for properly placing and finishing concrete flatwork. The published literature has provided guidelines on proper finishing of concrete and has shown the effects on surface durability. The ease with which a concrete mixture can be finished influences labor costs and final flatwork quality, but it is rarely mentioned in the literature and is difficult to measure. This laboratory study describes the development of a test method that measures the ease with which concrete flatwork can be finished.
