Abstract:
Tests for consistency, bleeding, and setting of portland cement pastes with and without addition of chemical admixtures are reported. On the basis of the results obtained from these tests and previous understanding, some innovative concepts concerning the nature and the mechanism of the behavior of portland cement paste in its early age are discussed. The areas covered in this report include consistency, fluidity, plasticizing effect of chemical admixtures, settling and bleeding, setting and false setting of cement pastes, and slump loss and retempering of concrete mixtures.
