Abstract:
Field studies were carried out in order to evaluate strength and durability of concrete materials and mixtures used in early opening applications of full-depth pavement repairs. Demonstration sites were selected in the States of Georgia and Ohio. Specimens were cast for testing of compressive and tensile strengths, freeze-thaw durability, and characteristics of air-void systems. Strengths for most mixes continued to increase with time, reaching 10,000 psi at 90 days for special blended cement concretes. Durability results were mixed, with those mixes having marginal air contents or using chloride accelerators showing significant deterioration in freeze-thaw testing.
