Abstract:
A beam strip approach has been adopted to predict the punching shear strength of flat slabs with and without shear reinforcements. Concomitant to this, attempts have also been made to formulate accurately the shear strengths of flat slabs subjected to unsymmetrical punching, i.e., where bending moments are present. Efforts have also been made to quantify the effects of "wide beam" shear, especially when specimens are supported on two opposite edges only, and to unveil its interrelationship with punching shear resistance. Predicted results were compared with existing experimental data previously reported by other researchers. Good agreement was observed.
