Abstract:
The usefulness of the slump test has been questioned many times, but the question has not been answered conclusively either way. The only general agreement about the slump test is that it is controversial. However, since the slump test is a widely used method, it deserves an earnest analysis from which a balance of its strengths and weaknesses can be produced. This discussion is based on facts including experimental results, the analysis is rigorous, and the conclusions, surprising as they may seem, are solid.
