Abstract:
Describes the use of a combination of standard plywood and custom self-spanning steel forms in the construction of cantilevered architectural concrete bents for supporting the upper tier of seats and the roof for the new basketball arena. Each bent was cast in one piece. Designed to permit the upper tier to hold as many seats as possible while maintaining sight lines on the lower tiers, each bent features a long cantilevered and curved riser beam and a 3-ft rearward offset between the roof support column and the main bent column. Large radii fillets and bullnoses soften the lines of the bents. 420-593
