Abstract:
Describes the cleaning restoration of both the exterior and interior of an intricately formed precast concrete landmark that had been subjected to gypsum crusts, organic attack, efflorescence, atmospheric staining, and iron oxide staining. An ammonium bifluoride-based cleaner was used in conjunction with a pulsed-water mist process on the facade. The interior was cleaned with a poultice of absorbent clay mixed with mild cleaning agents.
