Abstract:
The object of this research was to determine the reliability of the K-slump tester by an interoperator study, using procedures similar to the ones described in the ASTM C 802 and C 670. Four identical concrete mixes were prepared with their water-cement ratios varied to give values of 0.50, 0.56, 0.62, and 0.67, respectively. The consistency of each of the mixes was measured three times by each of four operators using the K-slump tester. Each operator carried out the tests independently, thus simulating an interlaboratory program. The results show a good relationship between the consistencies of the different materials as measured by the four operators. Calculated statistical values of variance, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation fall in line with accepted values for measuring properties of concrete. The K-slump tester was found to measure the consistency of fresh workable concrete with a satisfactory reliability.
