Abstract:
Roller compacted concrete (RCC) is rapidly becoming an accepted method of construction in the United States for applications other than dams. Projects adopting this method of construction can be completed quickly and realize construction cost savings. The Railroad Intermodal Hub Facility for Burlington Northern at Houston, Texas, is the first heavy-duty RCC pavement constructed by the private sector in the United States. An inspection of the structure after several months of operation showed the structure to be functioning satisfactorily under the heavy loading and service conditions.
