Abstract:
Transfer of axial force and binding moment between columns and concrete flat slabs causes shear stresses that frequently are too high to be resisted by the concrete alone. A relatively new type of shear reinforcement to increase the strength and ductility of slab-column connections is described and its advantages are discussed. A design example is presented in which the new shear reinforcement is used and compared with a design using conventional stirrups.
