Abstract:
A simple knowledge-based, menu-driven approach for the design of reinforced concrete elements is discussed. The program is structured to accumulate knowledge by feeding the results of valid designs into a main databank. Although only rectangular short columns under combined axial and bending loads are considered, the approach could be applied to any concrete elements. This preliminary study presents a new approach in an as yet poorly defined subject. The methodology is found to be useful, especially where the problem is incomplete.
