Abstract:
The service life concept of design involves proportioning and building reinforced concrete structures to serve their intended functions for a specified number of years. Service life design calls for intensified attention to materials control, compaction, curing, and inspection. The 1989 ACI, 1985 British, 1990 CEB, and 1988 German codes reflect the change toward design for service life.
