Abstract:
Discusses key factors affecting the durability of rubber as a load-bearing structural member (e.g., base isolator, bridge bearing) and quotes the optimum values necessary to maximize the value of the critical level of stored strain energy within the material. This value provides the link to the structural design output (expressed in stress/strain units) and the performance criteria of selected rubbers in terms related to the vulcanization process.
