Abstract:
The devastating earthquake of Dec. 7, 1988, in Soviet Armenia affected numerous reinforced concrete and stone masonry buildings. Many buildings performed poorly, leading to great loss of life, while others sustained only minor cracking. Article highlights the lessons learned and relearned.
