Abstract:
Reports the results of an experimental study on the effectiveness of different reinforcement configurations in transferring the column axial pressure to concrete footings. The reinforcement patterns studied were vertical and inclined dowel bars and horizontal bars located underneath the loaded area. Effects of these reinforcement configurations on the failure mode, ultimate strength, and ductility of behavior in concrete footings subjected to bearing stresses were studied. Results were used to evaluate the ACI Building Code design guidelines for transferring the column forces to concrete footings.
