Abstract:
Presents the results of a fire test conducted on a full-size concrete slab reinforced with epoxy-coated bars. A two-way flat slab, approximately 13 x 14 ft (5.5 x 4.3 m) in plan and 7 in. (178 mm) thick, was tested. It was reinforced with Grade 60 epoxy-coated bars. The slab was subjected to a 138 lb/in.ý (6610 Pa) uniformly distributed load throughout the fire test. Moderate in-plane restraining forces were applied to the slab to simulate an edge bay in a 3 x 3 bay floor system. Minimum concrete cover over reinforcing bars was 3/4 in. (19 mm). The fire test was conducted in accordance with ASTM E 119. As evidenced by the test results, the fire endurance of the slab reinforced with epoxy-coated bars is at least 4 hr, 10 min. This is comparable to fire test results obtained for a similar slab reinforced with uncoated bars.
