Abstract:
Supports that transmit load into concrete from piping systems and cable trays encounter a wide range of combinations of shear, axial, and bending load combinations. Since load transfer will proportion to the stiffest transfer mechanism, a majority of the load combinations will transfer shear through friction between the attachment plate and concrete surface. Only a narrow range of shear and axial load combinations with low percentages of bending will expose the anchors to shear. Factors that maximize friction transfer to provide improved serviceability under cycling loading, and designs that reduce the cyclic loading capacity by exposing the anchors to direct shear are also discussed.
