Abstract:
The University of Washington wanted to build an aesthetically pleasing and durable parking structure that would be acceptable to a community that is extremely sensitive to any new construction. The parking structure had to last 50 to 100 years with minimal maintenance. The terrain was a design challenge, as the structure needed to be set into a hillside. Twelve enhancements of design are described in the article The parking structure was given an award based on its outstanding design and construction.
