Abstract:
A mathematical model to calculate the fire resistance of circular reinforced concrete columns made with siliceous aggregate is described. Calculated column temperatures and fire resistances are compared with those measured. The results indicate that the mathematical model employed in this study is capable of predicting the fire resistance of circular reinforced concrete columns with an accuracy that is adequate for practical purposes. Using the model, the fire resistance of circular reinforced concrete columns can be evaluated for any value of the significant parameters: such as load, column section size, column length, concrete strength, and percentage of reinforcing steel: without the necessity of testing. The model can also be used for the calculation of the fire resistance of columns made with concretes other than those investigated in this study (for example, lightweight concretes) if the relevant properties are known.
