Abstract:
In Switzerland, the use of very high performance, centrifuged reinforced concrete columns has become standard practice. When placing concrete by centrifuging, it has been demonstrated that a steel-to-concrete ratio of 17 percent can be achieved. The benefits of this technique include maximum utilization of the potential offered by low cost steel, optimization of concrete properties such as high compressive strength and fire resistance, and providing the architect with new possibilities for the economic execution of round columns.
