Abstract:
The variations in flexural strength and toughness, compressive strength, and impact resistance of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced cement composites were investigated through conducting replicated tests. The results were used to decide if the variations in different material properties follow normal distribution. The variations within and between batches were also compared. Comparisons were made between the variations in the compressive and flexural strengths of carbon fiber reinforced cement composites and the strength of plain concrete. Based on the observed levels of variation, suggestions are made for the minimum number of tests required to measure reliably the properties of the material, and for the relationships between the required properties of the composite during construction and the specified design values.
