Abstract:
For the 1995 - 1997 construction season, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) included seven high-performance concrete (HPC) bridge structures. A low permeability specification was used for five of those structures. Laboratory and field studies indicate that bridge deck concretes with a conventional water-cementitious material ratio of 0.45 or less provide the coulomb values specified by VDOT as long as a pozzolanic material is used. Proper construction practices are needed to produce quality concrete elements
