Abstract:
Serious deterioration processes in concrete are caused by corrosion of reinforcing steel, resulting in cracking, spalling, and delamination. The authors suggest that the most efficient way to approach this problem is in the design stage. Some critical aspects related to the protection of reinforcement in concrete repairs are highlighted. Basic aspects of corrosion and protection are covered, as is the difference between protection of reinforcement in new construction and repaired structures. A summary of protection methods in repairs and testing guidelines is provided.
