Abstract:
Curling and shrinkage in slabs: authors address changes in concrete practices that affect slab problems and the subsequent increased litigation for concrete contractors. Causes for slab curling and shrinkage are presented, including: temperature, aggregate gradation, admixtures, cement types, bleeding, mix water, curing, joint spacing, finishing, reinforcement placement, among others. Procedures for assessing slab damage and the appropriate steps for remediation are provided.
