Abstract:
Bridge foundations on the Hanshin Expressway Kobe route damaged by the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake were investigated to evaluate their level of structural integrity. Over 120 foundations were selected from the most severely affected section and their cracks were examined using a borehole cameras. Then, the relationship between the damage level and their ultimate strength was investigated analytically. As a result of the investigation, it was found that the foundations on this route experienced minor damage and these foundations could be reused as they were or with minor repair.
