Abstract:
Evidence is presented as to the importance of safety for companies operating in the concrete construction industry. The importance of safety is discussed in relation to the financial well-being of the contractor, including the effects of a company’s safety record on the pre-qualification process and the impact of safety on project cost. A focus on three methods for reducing jobsite accidents and the costs associated with those accidents is presented, such as making safety a company culture and reviewing the relationship between program planning and safety. A list of key components for a safety program is given.
