Abstract:
1. When using ACI 318-02 Section 11.4 to calculate the shear strength provided by concrete for prestressed members, when is it necessary to consider the effect of prestressing in the factored shear force? Also, when we compare the factored shear force at section, Vu , with the shear capacity of the section given in Eq. (11-9), should we consider the shear from external factored loads (1.2 DL+1.6 LL) as Vu , or should we include the primary and secondary prestressing shears (1.0P1 + 1.0P2) as well? 2. In Chapter 17 of ACI 318-02, “Composite ConcreteFlexural Members,” why is a positive connection (ties, dowels, or bonding agent) between two horizontal concrete surfaces not required if flexural composite behavior is desired?
