Abstract:
Controlled low-strength materials (CLSM), backfill materials that achieve compressive strengths of 1200 psi (8.3 MPa) or less, have found a home in Iowa. They have been used for bases, subbases, backfilling culverts, repairing bridges, and filling abandoned fuel tanks, as well as to fill voids created by erosion under streets, culvert pipes, sidewalks, floors, and footings.
