Abstract:
An experimental study was conducted to provide a comparative assessment of the seismic performance of the shear reinforcement for reinforced concrete slab-column connections. Reversed cyclic loading tests were conducted on four two-thirds scale slab-column connections subjected to a constant gravity shear ratio of approximately one-third the concrete shear strength. The test results indicate that both forms of shear reinforcement studied effectively increased the punching shear strength and ductility of the slab-column connections. In particular, the thin plate stirrups were as effective as headed studs and are appropriate for use on slab-column frames for both nonparticipating and lateral-force resisting systems.
