Abstract:
In pursuit of increased productivity, contractors and engineers in some European countries have constructed slabs reinforced almost entirely with steel fibers. Initially, these applications were limited to slab-on-pile floors where the consequences of failure with respect to life safety were minimal. The excellent results, however, have encouraged the use of steel fiber-reinforced concrete in elevated suspended slabs with traditional reinforcing bars included only along the column lines for structural integrity.
