Abstract:
Several issues regarding environmental effects on concrete structures in the Arabian Gulf and Peninsula are discussed. Consideration of macro-, meso-, and micro-environments are explained in light of environmental differences in Gulf countries. The scope of the paper involves raw materials as well as climatic and salt contamination. The paper gives recommendations on how to deal with the problem in existing and new structures in order to extend their life in the Gulf environment.
