Abstract:
The extension of the Jubilee subway line in London, England, was one of Europe’s largest underground railway projects. Tunneling specifications forced contractors to protect the foundations of many historic and sensitive buildings. To control subsidence, bentonite cement blocks were injected under building columns. Then by injecting a special grout under the blocks, these were lifted to the required height. A network of electronic sensors monitored ground movement.
