Abstract:
In New York City, space is very limited and costly, so it’s not uncommon to supplement the maximum floor area permitted for a specific zoning lot by purchasing the air rights for adjacent lots. For minimal disruption to the normal building methods and schedule, the designer of a new luxury residential structure used diagonal columns and a post-tensioned slab to support 16 floors cantilevered over a neighboring building.
