Abstract:
Straight studs with a mechanical anchor at each end can be used to replace conventional stirrups. The anchors must be of sufficient size to secure mechanical anchoring such that the full yield force can be developed in the stud with negligible anchor slip. This can be achieved for studs of yield stress up to 500 MPa (73 ksi), with anchor head area equal to 9 to 10 times the cross-sectional area of the stem. This paper discusses nine practical applications in which double-head studs can be used.
