Abstract:
Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium is one of the world’s largest aquarium facilities, with more than 8,000,000 gal. (30,000,000 L) of salt and fresh water and more than 100,000 animals of 500 different species. Nearly 100,000 yd3 (76,500 m3) of concrete were used to construct this extraordinary demonstration of concrete design and construction technology that will be the site of the Concrete Mixer at the ACI Spring 2007 Convention. The authors provide a description of the facility, fast-track design challenges, structural considerations, and use of self-consolidating concrete.
