Abstract:
This article is a summary of recent work by ACI Committee 437, Strength Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structures, to provide updated recommendations for load testing as a means of safety verification for existing concrete structures. Following a description of the committee’s recommendations and a comparison with proposed changes to ACI 318, the debate among ACI members regarding proposed changes to load testing practice is discussed.
